Postponing Personal Interviews

We are going to have to postpone the personal interviews for at least a week or two. Although I haven’t gotten any responses yet from anyone volunteering to go first we need time to get approval from the head librarian before we can set up an Event on the Facebook page. Once we do get approved we will bring our Read More …

Hotel Blanche Adaptive Use Proposal 1977

Thanks to the friendly people on the Facebook group, “You Know You’re From Lake City When”, who added a very informative document from the University of Florida Historical Documents website all in one file. The report was created in 1976-77 and much of what was put into the Historical Building Application with the Department of Interior came from this report. Read More …

News From 1902

We have a few more tidbits and articles in the 1902 editions of both newspapers and couple of out-of-town references to the Hotel in articles written about the great Florida State Fair that happened the second week in November. Check out the website and Facebook page for The Blanche. Please, like and share the Facebook page to show your support. He was very polite and Read More …

Experience with Microfilms

Today was my first day researching at the Florida Gateway College Library looking through the microfilms for the back issues of the Lake City Reporter newspapers. Whoa! Took almost an hour to get comfortable with loading the machine, figuring out how the software works and then having to scan every page for references to the Hotel Blanche.

Found the Original Historical Place Application

Cruising the internet for all references to the Hotel Blanche I came across a link to the Department of Interior of the original application to declare the Blanche as a historical building. There are two documents, one with the application which is 32 pages long and another with all the photographs that went along with it. Reading through the application Read More …
